From humble beginnings to a house of restoration.
St. John’s Pentecostal Church began in 1943 and has grown through prayer, Bible teaching, children’s ministry, evangelism and faithful leadership.
A small gathering with a lasting witness.
In 1943, Pentecostal believers from Montserrat — including Brother James Rodney, Sister Mary Brades and Sister Alley Browne — began meeting in St. John’s, Antigua. Their fellowship developed through prayer, Bible study, children’s ministry and open-air evangelism. As new believers joined, the congregation moved through several locations in the city before securing land and completing a church building in 1951 with assistance connected to the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada.
The ministry expanded across Antigua as missionaries and local believers helped establish Pentecostal work in communities including Pigotts, English Harbour, Bethesda, Pares Village, New Field, Liberta, All Saints, Freeman’s Village, Bendals, Crabbe Hill, Old Road and Kentish Road.

Stephen and Lourdes Andrews arrive
Evangelist Stephen Andrews and Mrs. Lourdes Andrews arrived in Antigua in 1992; Stephen Andrews was installed as pastor in 1993.
Woods Estate sanctuary
With the congregation expanded, a new sanctuary was established on Lauchland Benjamin Drive in Woods Estate, Antigua.

The church’s history is connected with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada and the Pentecostal Assemblies of the West Indies. PAWI’s Caribbean work developed from early missionary activity in Montserrat, later becoming a self-governing regional fellowship.
The Antigua-Barbuda and St. Kitts-Nevis District includes assemblies across Antigua, Barbuda, St. Kitts and Nevis, continuing the regional mission of Pentecostal witness and church planting.
